The Cardinal

By Nia C.

Red like flames in a fire
That people will now admire

Spikes like thorns upon its head
Oh, what a bird --- full of red

Singing a song all day
As children laugh and play

Now the cardinal will rest
In his beautiful brown nest

As the wonderful season springs
Twit, twit, twitter goes the cardinal as he sings

And he spreads his wings against the sky
To the land he knows, he says goodbye

The Sky's Cycle

By Emma V.

The setting sun's rays,

Are flowing along my wings,
And far beyond my feathers.
While I am flying over the ocean, I hear a splash...quiet splashes of the
Ocean, as the suns last rays stretch
Over the waves, making them glimmer.
When the sun seems to have sunk to the depths of the sea,
The gleaming stars come out, like tiny candles,
Against the dark, black, and inky sky.
Now the moon rises, a bowl of milk on a dark
Velvet carpet, among the droplets of spilled liquid, that are the stars. Oh, look, there is Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and finally Uranus.
Now I am getting tired, so I will go to my nest and sleep. I will wake up in the morning to see the rest of the sky’s cycle.
Now, I have awoken to a beautiful dawn, and the sky is a light pink first, then a deep purple next, orange third, a dull gray color last.
A pale blue arises, although you can still see the moon.
As the sun is rising, everything is burning,
People are sweating, plants are wilting, all while the sun is rising. All happening in the sky’s cycle.

Thinking About Spring

By Devika T.

Thinking about spring
in the cold wintry days
fills my heart with delight.

The white snow on which I walk
whispers in my ear,
“I will be gone and
your green grass will be here.”
I wish my snow-angels would
come alive
and bring me spring.

Behind the blue blanket above,
sun faces clouds in a
tight game of tug of war.
The bring rays of the sun
give me a clue
that spring will be here soon.

I know it seems long,
but soon my birds would
be back to sing to me.
And pine-needles would sew
quilts of roses, tulips, and irises.

“Hurry! You don’t want to get late,”
tells my mom
as I put on my winter coat on.
In spring I’ll
go quick as a wink,
with a flowery dress
flowing in the wind.

Exploding Flowers

By Hallie V.

In my garden there are exploding flowers,
They have extremely insane powers,
Each time they bloom they go kaboom and shatter petals on the ground,
Next time I buy seeds at the store I should look at the labels a little more,
So I don’t end up in the emergency room,
Next time the flowers petals bloom.

Dolphins

By Isabella L.

In the ocean, down below
You can see a little glow
A silver glimmer, a playful splash
Then you hear a big loud clash
It jumps up, then goes under
Sometimes you start to wonder
Has it gone to get a snack?
Or will it ever come back?

Time

By Grace F.

Hoping, hoping

Tick-tock, tick-tock

Goes the old clock

Watching, watching

The hours go by

They keep coming, they keep coming

And as they come we wait

Going slowly, going slowly

I just hope they come soon

Starting, starting

To get bored

Looking, looking

Out the window

Waiting, waiting

Let’s wait some more

They’re almost here

Seeing, seeing

Someone coming

Friends with presents

So let’s start the party!!!
